faqs - Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Who are the BREAKFAST RIDERS?
We are a loose knit group of individuals from all walks of life who enjoy the ride and the company of friends,
family, and other motorcycle enthusiasts.
Q: Why do you call your group BREAKFAST RIDERS?
The original group got together to go out for breakfast only --
thus the name BREAKFAST RIDERS was adopted.
We have since expanded our riding agenda but retained the name.
Q: How do you join?
There is no group to join per se. So, just show up and ride.
Q: How do I get the newsletter?
1) Show up for a ride and fill out the new rider sheet.
2) Send an email to grumpales@comcast.net with your name, address, city, zip --
phone# optional.
If you have NOT attended a ride or contacted us somehow,
your name will get dropped after one year.
If that happens and you want to ride, then show up again,
fill out the form again.
Q: Can anyone ride with the group?
Yes. Our group is open to all. The only requirement is that
you enjoy riding, are courteous and respectful of other
riders, and keep your head on square.
Q: How fast do you ride?
We have fast and slow riders in our group.
The top speed is limited by SAFETY!
Under normal situations, that is 65-70 on freeways.
But each rider rides at his/her own pace.
As long as you stay WELL within your limits,
then that is fast enough.
Q: Does the group ride in the rain?
As a general rule, NO!
But we have been caught getting wet on a ride or so.
But so far, never any heavy nor extended rain.
Q: Are there monthly fees or dues to join BREAKFAST RIDERS?
No. There are no fees or dues.
(But, each year we double it from $0.00 to $0.00. hee hee)
Q: Do you have regular meetings with officers, etc?
No. We get together to ride once a month and that's about it.
There are no officers or formal structure to this group.
There is an annual planning session, usually in January
or February. Come and give your input
(or don’t complain about the planned rides -- hee hee).
The closest person we have to an officer is
the newsletter master (Les ‘Grumpa’ Kurtz), or maybe
the ride leader (or ride captain for the more formal
of you) -- p.s. It is Les again.
Q: Are there specific rules and regulations which must be followed?
Yes. Come with a full tank of gas, money for your food and gas.
Other than that, all we ask is that all riders respect their
fellow riders, use good judgment, and let someone know if you leave
the ride prior to completion. SAFETY is our top priority.
Fun is a close second.
Q: Does the group carry insurance for each event?
No. Each rider is responsible for their insurance --
and behavior, and gas, and lunch.
Q: Are Breakfast Riders affiliated or members of other Groups?
Yes. Some are, but they enjoy riding in a more casual
and less structured atmosphere with us.
Q: Is there peer pressure if you miss a ride or
join the group on an irregular basis?
No. Come when you feel like riding. We appreciate the
demands on people's time.
Q: How many riders generally go on your rides?
We typically have between 5-25 riders (wild guess).
Each ride will likely have a different number of riders.
Q: What type motorcycle do you promote?
None. We have all types of bikes from Harleys, to
metric cruisers, sport bikes, sport tour, as well as
the occasional dual purpose bike. For us, as a group,
it is the ride itself and not the particular type of
motorcycle that is important. For each person...
that is a different story.
Q: What level of difficulty do your rides entail?
Each ride is different but all seem to include a variation
of highway, winding roads, and meandering side roads.
Our group includes near novice as well as expert riders.
The ride calendar provides a brief description of each
ride so each person can decide if it is right for them.
Q: Does BREAKFAST RIDERS get involved with special events
in addition to the monthly rides?
Yes - We support the Ride-4-Kids, Toys runs including
the Ronald MacDonald House Toy Run to Sacramento,
Sierra Hope, and several other rides for good causes.
We are a group of motorcycle enthusiasts that care about people.
Q: Do you have to enjoy Les' bad jokes?
Naw...it just helps keep him mellow...
that and chocolate and hugs.
